Music of the Heart

The power of music touches the heart. The Oud is an ancient stringed instrument that has been played for millenia, in the Middle East. According to Al-Farabi one of the greatest scientists and philosophers of the Muslim world, the oud was invented by Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam. An Oud is depicted in this design against bright foliage with the words “Qalbi, Qalbak, Quloobana” (My Heart, Your Heart, Our Hearts).

The Arabic word “Zikr” (Remembrance of the Almighty) executed in fluid Chinese calligraphy with a Tasbeeh (string of prayer beads), against a background of the globe in subtle Islamic zellij mosaic.
